First free practice just finished in Canada with Max Verstappen who leads the group in front of Carlos Sainz and to an excellent (until now) Fernando Alonso. Then Perez e Leclerc. But now let's get into the details.
Red Bull picks up from FP1 where it left off
Red Bull and especially Max Verstappen restarts the same way it ended in Azerbaijan, in first position. The Dutchman puts himself in front of everyone with times that are still very high and without excessive use of the power unit (he finishes in 1.15.158). A little further back Perez who does a differentiated job compared to Verstappen with more race pace and less practice for qualifying. Race pace generally enough in the house Red Bull. Of note are the small problems on the new world champion's car on which checks were made in the area of the engine hood. Also in the last minutes of FP1 he felt some “clipping” at the end of the straight, that is a small loss in km/h before braking.
Ferrari test car
Even the pilots of the red they perform a different job: Sainz he concentrates more on qualifying and in fact is second about 2 tenths from SuperMax; Leclerc on the other hand, he makes a lot of race pace in view of the possible penalty not yet declared but by the Ferrari who used the turbo 1 on the Monegasque's car in these FP1s. Thanks to the data collected both with the yellow tire and with the red tyre, they will establish whether Leclerc will be able to easily cope with a possible comeback or not to risk it and start with the first turbo specification without take penalty. It was also rendered I know the reason of Leclerc's withdrawal which appears to have been and caused by a plastic bag that infiltrated the air intakes causing the engine to overheat.
FP1, Mercedes starts by jumping
Il german team seems to have not solved the problem yet pouring on their own machines; Indeed, Russell ed Hamilton they finish respectively in sixth and eighth position. All in all, however, the lap tested in "push" it seems to be good, but we will have to wait for tomorrow to better understand their race pace.
And the others?
A note of credit goes above all to Fernando Alonso who finishes in third position with a very good lap and, from the first data, the two-time world champion also seems have an excellent race pace. That's a good session too by Aston Martin ending with both cars in the Top 10 (seventh Stroll and ninth Hag), but in a FantaF1 key it is better to wait for FP3 to understand what to do. Disappointing for now the Ferrari-powered ones in the bottom positions of the standings with Alfa Romeo e Haas in the last positions
This is how FP1 ends. Appointment at 23.00 pm, under the probable rain, for the second session not to be missed!
