By definition, themotoring is one spectacular sport which arises from the need of the human being to put himself to the test, pushing himself to the overdrive and risking everything. There Formula 1 today constitutes not only the maximum expression of four-wheeled sport and motoring technology, but it also turns out to be the most prestigious category e followed worldwide.
Formula means rules
The term "Formula” refers to the set of rules to which the pilots, the cars and all the other participants of the Circus must adapt. The regulations are drawn up by World Automobile Council of FIA (International Automobile Federation) – of which it currently is Mohammed Ben Sulayem President. However, it is the marshals who, during the races, have the task of interpreting the rules and applying them to the situations that arise, making decisions in a short space of time.
The Abu Dhabi '21 case
However, there are episodes in which the decisions of the race commissioners have caused controversies, which the world of four wheels does not forget. A recent example of this is what happened to Abu Dhabi, on the occasion of the last Grand Prix of 2021, which subsequently led to delle changes to the regulation. Four laps to go Latifs ends up against the wall, causing the car to enter the track Safety car. The race could have ended under safety conditions – as happened in Monza last September – but closing the curtain on the last exhibition of the year, with a world championship still to be decided and a champion to be crowned, was not a plausible option, “The show must go on” (the show must go on). The rules they were set aside to ensure a breathtaking finale.
In the last year, the controversies have not been slow to arrive, according to which, the F1, riding the wave of fame, is favoring the "flow of money" and therefore the show, rather than the set of rules that give the category its name.
Responds to criticism I'm Sulayem, to the microphones of the press – on the occasion of FIA Gala held last December 9 in Bologna – recalling that there will always be controversies and challenges to face, but that the FIA, as such, despite the money aspect, must guarantee the right governance. Without too many words, it is the president of the FIA himself who admits that Formula 1 has reached a climax of notoriety, which certainly will not end here.
All for show
The worldwide success that follows Formula 1 constitutes an increase in demand, which in this area translates into more spectacular, which must however remain in balance with competitive practice. Season 2023 it will in fact be very dense, composed of 24 appointments – with the possible return of the Chinese Grand Prix – and which sees the addition of a new circuit, that of Las Vegas.
To increase theappeal of the competitions it was necessary that we competed on equal terms, not just to favor overtaking, duels, but also to eliminate those unchallenged domains that are "boring" to look at. The means available to the FIA to make this happen is certainly a change to the regulation. So it happened in 2011, with the implementation of DRS, the mobile wing that allows a greater number of overtaking by reducing the aerodynamic resistance of your car in the designated areas of the circuit where it can be used. Another means that has increased the number of overtaking is certainly theground effect of last season's single-seaters, which allows the cars to travel close together, without the tires of those following suffering from the dirty air of the car ahead.
As if the 24 races proposed were not enough, they will be held in the 2023 season 6 Sprint Race. The format – introduced for the first time a Silverstone in 2021 – foresees a qualifying session on Friday, which decides the starting order for the Sprint. The Sprint Race itself consists of a race of 100 km and the order of arrival establishes the Sunday grid. There are more points up for grabs, plus yet another chance at a show!
