A meeting between the team, the FIA and Liberty Media was convened last season to discuss a possible new one qualification format. The project was liked and, therefore, unanimously, it was decided to approve it.
Intriguing idea, but what is it about?
F1, in general, is and always must be spectacular. So what does this add formula? On a completely experimental basis, the teams will have to use different compounds for each step of the qualification. Precisely, the Hard in Q1, the Medium in Q2 and the Soft Drinks in Q3. This will consequently decrease the number of tyres carried by each individual team during the race weekend from 13 to 11 set. The stables will have available 3 white compounds, 4 yellow and 4 red. Following a simple reasoning, the cars arriving in Q3 will use 6 sets of tires for qualification. The remaining 5 they will be divided between free practice and the race.

Everything has been designed to make the choice of the most unlikely strategy by the teams: if, for example, a car does not pass the Q2 cut, it will find itself having at least two sets of new Soft tires which, on some tracks where degradation is not high, can cause the difference.
Also, all this will help in the progress of F1 to become more and more carbon neutral until it is totally within the 2030, date set by Liberty Media itself.

New qualifications, where will we test?
Since the format is a real experiment, we won't see it everywhere, but only in some races, 2 to be precise. Of these, however, only one was made official: in fact, during the weekend in Bahrain, the Pirelli announced that the first tender in which this new idea will be put into practice will be that of 20st May on the circuit Enzo and Dino Ferrari of Imola.
