When it comes to Formula 1, and more specifically the FIAcontroversy never fails. For the Federation it is certainly not an easy moment and, precisely for this reason, certain innovations are ready to be able to make a change in view of the next seasons.

One of the hottest topics of last season, in addition to the budget cap case that hit the Red Bull, it concerns the race direction. After the 2021 Abu Dhabi case, which led to the firing of Michael Masi, Ben Sulayem opted for the duo Wittich and Freitas as Race Director. At the end of the season, making a 360° analysis, it is clear that they weren't lacking mistakes: from the ending in safety car at Monza, to chaos penalty Perez in Singapore, until the tractor disaster in track in the rain at Suzuka. Events that in particular saw Freitas come out defeated, with Wittich who directed the last two races of 2022 alone.

FIA, the new project starts
We need to make a turn Ben Sulayem knows this and has decided to intervene. The International Federation has in fact called a new project called “FIA High Performance Program for Officials”. The goal will be to train new Race Directors.
All the details
They will participate in the event 24 trainees, including 8 stewards and 16 aspiring race directors. Following a long selection, the selected candidates will be supported by FIA experts and tutors. The objective set by the Federation is very clear: to identify the best talents from all regions and accelerate their growth. It will be very busy days in Geneva, where the FIA Program for Officials, in the hope of not having to dwell on possible errors by the Race Director at the end of the race.
