While the 2022 season has now definitively ended, the FIA and the F1 Commission discuss new regulations ahead of 2024.
FIA, a change in the regulations is being evaluated
During the last Grand Prix of the year, held last week in Abu Dhabi, the FIA and the members of the F1 Commission met to touch on some important aspects to change in view of the 2024 world championship. So many question marks and possible changes. The goal of Federation in fact, it is to try to make the various regulations, going from the sporting to the financial one, much less complex and structured than the current one. It is no coincidence that several times we have had difficulty understanding the regulation, like at Suzuki(in the case of sporting regulations) or on the subject budget cap for the financial one.
The “chaos” power unit
One of the main topics of discussion concerns though the power units. During the season, according to the regulation, each team has three power units available, before facing the penalty. This year, all the teams have exceeded the limit of 3 units and, according to the F1 Commission, the rules in force today do nothing but encourage the tactical replacement of certain elements of the engine. On this front, therefore, changes are foreseen which will be dealt with in the next meetings.
The Sprint theme
Another important idea concerns the possibility of being able to activate the DRS one lap before a GP or a Sprint race. In this regard, considering the six "mini races" arriving from next year, the topics concerning the parc fermé regime were dealt with, which in a weekend with the presence of the Sprint starts as early as Friday. Again on this subject, it was granted teams the possibility of having 300 dollars available in the event of damage. Finally, changes will also be made to the financial regulation which will, however, be dealt with in the next meetings.
All stalled
These are for now the various topics that the F1 Commission touched on during the last race weekend. Formula 1 is preparing for changes which, to date are not official, but which may become so very soon.
