Through the press release, it appears that the former Formula One race director has decided to officially leave the FIA. Masi's choice is for family reasons: the forty-four year old will in fact return to Australia, to be able to stay closer to his family. Masi's career has been characterized da what happened in Abu Dhabi last year. Not having applied the regulation in the best possible way, under the safety car regime, has only increased the controversy over his position. “The FIA confirms that Michael Masi has decided to leave the FIA and move to Australia to be closer to his family and face new challenges. Masi worked for a three-year period as Formula 1 Race Director and Safety Officer following the sudden passing of Charlie Whiting in 2019, performing the many functions entrusted to him in a professional and dedicated manner.
