On the occasion of the Monaco Grand Prix, the International Federation has been talked about for highly questionable decisions. The commissioners did not intervene on various occasions that had been sanctioned in the past, causing a certain stir among the insiders.
Abu Dhabi does not teach
Five and a half months have passed since the events in Abu Dhabi last year. What serious happened in Yas Marina has given one carried out at the top of the organizational chart FIA. Former race director Michael Massi was used as a scapegoat, in fact attributing more faults to him than he had, despite the FIA itself having admitted to having shouldered it with too many responsibilities.
Masi's head blown off, the Federation undertook to find a replacement… or rather two. Eduardo Freitas e Niels Wittitch they left the WEC and DTM respectively to take charge of management in the top flight. Despite the good intentions and analyzes made by the federation in recent months to avoid running into controversial decisions again, opacities remain in the objectives and choices of the new management. Replace one pope with another it wasn't enough to guarantee exemplary administration, and in Monaco, the first real race with rather ambiguous situations, we had confirmation of this. Ironic to think that the president of the FIA I'm Sulayem had talked about a possible return of Masi, when the past and present direction left and still leaves much to be desired.
Not even an investigation
In the stormy afternoon of the Principality we witnessed two main events that had been sanctioned in the past, while yesterday they weren't. The first: both Verstappen, that the winner Sergio Perez, upon returning to the track they hit the line at the pit lane exit. The commissioners, upon happening, they haven't even launched an investigation. When after the race the Ferrari filed a complaint for what happened, every protest was in vain as, according to the marshals, the wheels of the pilots involved they would have had to cross the line entirely. The sentence is dissonant with past decisions: the most striking example is the sanction of tsunoda when with his Alpha Tauri he touched the white line as he entered the pits, which happened last year in Austria.
The blue flags
The second episode that caused a sensation occurred during the dubbing phase by the two Ferrari drivers. Is Albon, that Latifs, they ignored several blue flags when the Ferrari drivers came up behind them to lap them. The result was the following: no penalty for the two Williams. We remind you that it is possible to receive a penalty if they are ignored three blue flags below. In terms of time however, Sainz lost about two seconds, while Leclerc Three. If there had been respect for the rules, the fate of the race could have been different, even if the Ferrari debacle however, it would not have gone unnoticed.
It is necessary for the Federation to clarify as soon as possible, above all through facts, the direction it intends to follow. There is no longer any need for mistakes and doubts that could significantly influence the championship after what we experienced last December.
