La Ferrari on 6 and 7 December Pirelli was dedicated to the two-day test at the Fiorano circuit where they returned to the track after the Gran Finale in Abu Dhabi is Carlos Sainz is Charles Leclerc. The Reds therefore interrupted the winter break by anticipating the tests that will lead us towards the opening of the season in Bahrain. In order to provide Pirelli with as much data as possible to develop the wet tyres. One last dance with the F1-75, car of discord, fragile but with an extremely powerful engine powerful, which brought the silver medal back to the Maranello team in both championships.
The two riders of the Reds enjoyed driving in the wet for test the new Pirelli compounds, with intermediate and full wet, which will be used in 2023. Replicating the most extreme conditions with artificial irrigation. A job started a few days earlier also by Alfa Romeo at Paul Ricard with Robert Kubica.
Both Sainz and Leclerc on the track
The first to take to the track was Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard started the program by working on an initially wet track with the intermediates, the most used compound in wet track conditions, also verifying the switch to the dry tyres. The Monegasque, on the other hand, had to work the following day, which was also cold, but fortunately without snow. Leclerc filmed both in the morning and in the afternoon, under the watchful eyes of the fans who had come to see Charles' work, who greeted them by indulging in autographs and photos as soon as the work was finished. In Maranello we are working on next season but we are also waiting for an answer on the name of the next one Team Principal after resignation of Binotto.
The goal of the tests
During the season there are few occasions in which we have seen the full wet and among the different reasons, beyond the visibility problem because of the amount of water they raise there is also that of functioning of the tires without the use of tyrewarmers. Pirelli's goal is to eliminate them in 2023, and the Ferrari and Alfa Romeo tests were carried out with this in mind. Being non-mandatory tests, not everyone has given their availability. In February it will be AlphaTauri's turn. In fact, the Faenza team has also accepted the invitation to participate in the tests in which Pirelli dictates the programme. At Red Bull, in which Verstappen he had offered to help Pirelli with the full wet tests after the controversy that arose in Suzuka, but everything is silent.
“When we have an opportunity – and we are finalizing the 2023 test calendar – we send an invitation to the teams to participate, then it's up to them to decide whether to take part or not”commented Mario Isola, Pirelli's motorsport manager. On the wet tires, he says, "we know that we have to improve especially the warm up phase and the performances. It's good to have wet and cold conditions (at Fiorano), given that one of the objectives is to eliminate tire warmers from the wet tires in 2023."
