It doesn't take much to stir things up in Ferrari and the farewell of Sanchez, head of aerodynamics in the aftermath of the debacle in Bahrain, unleashed a veritable tsunami. The team is undergoing major restructuring after the arrival of Vasseur, with the subsequent reorganization of the workforce, e the biggest fear is that the Reds could find themselves in situations they have already experienced, that they are predisposed to make the same mistakes. What happens in Maranello, however, is difficult to know. The news daily multiply and intertwine confusing ideas. Nothing new when talking about Ferrari. A large cauldron, in which the SF-23 would also be in the middle, a car that found itself without a real point of reference from a technical point of view, unlike the RB19, and also the AMR23.
The timing – the official announcement on Sanchez came immediately after the first race of the season, despite having already been scheduled – has fueled the rumors about the atmosphere that would be breathed in Maranello. Rumors of a tug of war between Vigna and Vasseur, denied by the Ferrari Team Principal who came out into the open declaring to have decision-making power and resources never had in other teams; rumors about a possible departure of Leclerc which although he has not personally denied he has welcome the comment of those who did it for him; rumors about the departure of other components, Mekies and Cardile, denied from Motorsport.com Italy. Precisely from the latter, through an analysis by Franco Nugnes on the hot situation at Ferrari, confirmations have also arrived on Sanchez's replacement.
Diego Tondi will take the place of Sanchez
Ferrari, due to the tight deadlines, had to draw on the resources already available for this replacement. The choice therefore fell on Diego Tondi, one of the two names at stake. Tondi joined Ferrari in 2007. Within the Aerodynamics department he covered various tasks, from wind tunnel testing to CFD development, up to holding the role of aerodynamic development manager from 2021. According to Mororsport.com, Tondi's promotion would not be the only news. In fact, there will also be two former Red Bull resources to support him.
It's not a big news to see engineers move from one team to another, but compared to other teams, Ferrari is more inclined to look in its own garden. Red Bull is leading the way, and Aston Martin is a clear example of this. Who knows, as Nugnes hopes, even the two new signings from the Reds could bring a breath of fresh air.
