La news it was in the air and, in the end, it became confirmation. It has indeed been made official Ferrari's decision to change elements on Charles Leclerc's power unit.
New elements for Leclerc
Through the press release of the FIA it was confirmed that the Monegasque will mount new components: ICE and turbocharger. However, there is talk of the sixth power unit that the Monegasque should use with a view to 2023 even if at the moment the decision concerns the change of these two elements. In fact, Ferrari's idea seems to be to assemble a new one full unit, in order to push it to the maximum, to try to see where to improve and work this winter in view of 2023 (remembering that with the freezing of the engines, it will only be possible to work on reliability).
Ferrari and Leclerc are thinking about 2023
Austin will therefore be a comeback race for Leclerc who will be forced to start at the moment with 10 penalty positions. The Monegasque was already aware of the penalty and, during Thursday with the media, analyzed the key to bringing home points in the race. "We need to improve in Sunday execution as a whole, in a lot of things. It's tire management, which as we've seen in recent races is a weak point, communication, strategy, reliability. The aim is to be a stronger team on Sunday and finalize the weekend in the best possible way, because on Saturday we are often very strong, but on Sunday things often fall apart."
Not just him
However, Leclerc will not be the only one to serve penalties. Gia Perez and Zhou will serve 5 each. And it also adds to them Fernando Alonso for the replacement of the ICE. We'll see if other indications arrive during the weekend.
