Sebastian Montoya, young Colombian talent and member of the Red Bull Junior Team, will make the big leap in Formula 2 in the 2025 season with the PREMA Racing team. The announcement was made official by the Italian team, which thus completes its line-up with Montoya and the promising Italian pilot Gabriele Minì.
Sebastián Montoya comes to Formula 2 after a solid season in FIA Formula 3, where he finished 2024 with six points finishes. The highlight was the second achieved in the Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps, a result that demonstrated his talent and his ability to compete at the highest level.
A story that renews itself
For Montoya, the 2025 scores a back to the origins. The driver, in fact, had started his career in single-seaters with PREMA in 2020, taking part in the Italian Formula 4 championship and finishing fourth overall in 2021. After a stint at the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine in 2022 and two seasons in Formula 3, the young Colombian is now ready for the next step.
"“I am very excited to join PREMA for the 2025 FIA Formula 2 season,” said Montoya. “They were the first team I worked with, which makes it special to see how they have evolved over time. They are one of the best teams in the junior series and now globally. I am delighted to be working with them again and can’t wait to get started."
PREMA Racing Team Principal's Expectations
even the Team Principal by PREMA Racing, René Rosin, expressed great confidence in Montoya's return:
"It's great to be back working with Sebastián. We really enjoyed working together in Formula 4 and Formula Regional, and now, as we approach the 2 FIA Formula 2025 Championship, we're confident there's good potential to develop. The move to F2 It's never easy, but we are determined to prepare well together, both at home and during the tests, and to build on this foundation."
With the support of a top-tier team and experience gained in the lower categories, Montoya looks ready to make his mark in Formula 2. The 2025 season represents a new challenge for the Colombian, who aims to confirm his talent in an even more competitive context.
