In first race of the weekend in Azerbaijan, A fantastic Joshua Duerksen conquers his first victory in the propaedeutic category. While Mini, Mansell and Browning – new arrivals in F2 – put on a show in the Baku Sprint, Oliver Goethe fatigue, causes a contact and receives a post-match penalties.
Newcomers make their mark
There are several new faces on the grid this weekend. Their performances, however, are already leaving their mark: from Gabriele Mini who conquers the third place, mansell who – despite having lost the leadership of the race – managed to finish in points area. Not least Luke browning, who crossed the finish line in 11th place, after having defended that position with tooth and nail from the championship leader Isaac Hadjar.
In his second weekend in Formula 2 instead, Oliver Goethe seems to struggle, German driver who replaced Colapinto after his move to the top category. A not a particularly easy start for him in Baku, on a circuit where he has never raced. Goethe has impacted in the barriers during the only free practice session available, thus losing the opportunity to study the track better.
Penalty for Goethe after F2 Sprint in Baku
During the usual Saturday race, the MP Motorsport team driver went on contact with the number 16 single-seater driven by Amaury Cordeel. At the end of the Sprint Race of F2 in Baku, the Stewards reviewed the videos and determined that the fault of the accident either predominantly – but not entirely – by Goethe, who thus receives a penalty.
The German driver, who finished the race in 21st position, was awarded a 5 second penalty. By applying the penalty, Goethe it remains anyway 21th in the standings.
