At the end of the Formula 2 Sprint Race di Abu Dhabi, Paul Aron, team driver Hitech Pulse Eight, was officially disqualified following a technical violation.
A post-race report from the Technical Delegate of FIA highlighted that theactuator of the DRS of car 17 had been modified, in violation of Article 1.5.2 of the FIA F2 Technical Regulations. The modification, which consisted of a one millimeter extension of the actuator length, allowed a greater opening of the DRS wing, thus ensuring an uneven aerodynamic advantage.
Disqualification from Sprint Race of Formula 2 is the standard penalty for a technical infringement. However, the Stewards considered that the team was aware that the part was non-compliant (or, at least, should have been aware and exercised greater diligence). Since such a change can only be made through a deliberate act, the Commissioners have decided to impose a additional penalty.
According to the Article 12.4.6 of the FIA International Sporting Code, Car 17 will start from the pit lane in Sunday's Feature Race.
Dino Beganovic promoted to third position
Aron's disqualification had important repercussions on the Sprint Race standings. Dino Beganovich, driver of the DAMS Lucas Oil team, is therefore promoted to third position, thus achieving his first podium in Formula 2. Also Jak Crawford benefited from the penalty, moving up to eighth place and earning the last available point.
Isaac Hadjar, thanks to the revision of the ranking, has risen to fifth place. This allows it to get even closer to Gabriel Bortoleto for the title fight. The gap is now just four and a half points ahead of the Feature Race.
All eyes now turn to the Feature Race at Yas Marina, where a battle is expected right down to the final lap.
