A particular weekend, the one played by Lewis Hamilton than from Oscar Piastres. The first concluded the Italian GP sixth place in the rankings; the other, however, in the twelfth, conditioned by both a 5 second penalty and a contact arose with the seven-time world champion.
The contact
It all started a few laps before the end of the GP, when Hamilton tried to overtake Piastri at the Roggia. The Mercedes driver, fresh among other things from renewal with the Brackley team, he misses the attack and hits the rookie Australian, causing significant damage to his front wing. Piastri is forced to return to the pits while Hamilton - for this action - is sanctioned with a five-second penalty.
Hamilton: “There's little to say about the contact, I made a mistake”
A clear and clear mistake, as well as the indisputable penalty. In fact, it was the same man who said and admitted his mistake Hamilton that, as soon as the race ended, he immediately apologized to Piastri, as he himself told in the post GP: “È It was completely my mistake. To be honest, I was in a blind spot and I went on the attack without realizing that I had no space. Was – Hamilton said – my mistake and I immediately apologized to Oscar (Plates ed.)”.
Piastri: “Lewis immediately apologized to me”
Apologies delivered and above all accepted. Word in Plates: “Lewis immediately apologized to me. Obviously I won't be able to get my race back, but I couldn't ask for anything better”. For the Australian, the Monza GP ended with a twelfth place linked not only to the contact with Hamilton, but also to the five second penalty inflicted by the stewards at the end of the race for having committed an irregular overtaking on Lawson and taking advantage in turn 5.
Wolff: “Hamilton admits mistakes, the others complain”
A scene, the one between Lewis and Piastri, characterized by sportsmanship. Hamilton demonstrates, even off the track, that he is a seven-time world champion by doing something that shouldn't be done take so much for granted, as also admitted by his team principal Toto Wolff"Lewis is truly a great sportsman. I believe Wolff admitted. that he is undoubtedly the only one who can admit when he is wrong and, in addition to doing so, he declares it to everyone without any problem. Others instead, are complaining just to try not to get the penalty".
