After a controversial weekend at Melbourne, in which Williams temporarily Logan Sargeant dismounted to make Alex Albon run, after the violent attack crash in FP1 , lack of a spare chassis, the situation does not appear to be improving in the near future Suzuka.
The Grove stables has not yet produced a spare chassis and, with the Japanese Grand Prix approaching, he cannot afford to risk an Australian GP 2.0. Having just returned from Melbourne, the mechanics tried to repair the destroyed frame from Albon, as team principal James explained Vowles.
Williams towards Suzuka between chassis and updates
"Work on the repairs could begin as early as 2 am on Monday – commented Vowles on the team's social channels – Then a in Suzuka we will have two cars without too many problems". The repairs to the car number 23, however, are done further postpone the creation of the third frame.
As in Australia and in the two previous events, therefore, Albon and Sargeant will have to be very careful to avoid possible accidents. Last year, in Japan, Sargeant was involved in a major accident during qualifying. If the situation were to arise again, Williams would be forced to run with just one car for the second consecutive race.
Despite the difficult moment, the whole team is working hard to reverse the trend as soon as possible. TO Suzuka, in fact, there will be small ones updates. “The updates we have planned for Japan will continue to be made. This is the positive news. These are small interventions, but each of them will help improve performance – explained Vowles – The team is doing a great job of absorbing the additional workload. There will be further news that we will bring around the sixth round [Miami GP] and also other elements later”.
