The race weekend at Zandvoort has left Williams with more doubts than certainties regarding Logan Sargeant's future in Formula 1. The accidents and disappointing performances of the young American driver have pushed the British team to seriously consider a change of direction starting from the next Monza Grand Prix . The situation is made even more delicate by the fact that Williams has already announced the arrival of Carlos Sainz for 2025, effectively marking the end of Sargeant's brief adventure with the team. However, the driver's fate could be sealed well before the end of the season. With this perspective, two main candidates emerge to replace Sargeant: Liam Lawson, currently linked to Red Bull, and Mick Schumacher, supported by former world champion Sebastian Vettel.
Lawson, the favorite on loan from Red Bull
According to various sources, including PlanetF1, the most likely name to take Sargeant's place is that of Liam Lawson. The young New Zealand driver, currently employed as a reserve for Red Bull, seems to be the favorite for a temporary loan which would see him at the wheel of Williams already in Monza. Red Bull, in fact, would be willing to give Lawson to the Grove team, especially considering the difficulties the team is going through with Sargeant. Lawson has already shown considerable potential in the lower categories and could represent a safe choice for Williams, keen to improve their performances at this crucial stage of the season.
The possible arrival of Lawson would not only be a move to immediately improve results, but also an opportunity to evaluate the rider in view of future collaborations. However, the risk is that the young New Zealander could find himself under considerable pressure, having to immediately prove his worth in a competitive environment such as Formula 1.

Mick Schumacher replacing Sargeant, the return hoped for by Vettel
Although Lawson is the favourite, the idea of Mick Schumacher returning to Formula 1 at Williams cannot be ruled out: supporting this option is a big name, Sebastian Vettel. The former world champion, in a recent interview, stated: “I think Mick deserves another opportunity in Formula 1. He has shown that he has the necessary talent, but he needs the right context to be able to express his full potential. Williams could be that ideal context for him.”
Vettel also highlighted how Schumacher learned a lot during his time at Haas and that his return to Formula 1, especially in a team like Williams, could be beneficial for both parties: “Mick is a hard-working guy and has a great passion for this sport. I'm sure that with the right support he could do great things with Williams. It would be the right choice for him and for the team.”
Vettel's words not only strengthen the hypothesis of Schumacher's return to Formula 1, but also show how strong the bond is between the two drivers, with Vettel confirming himself as a mentor and supporter of Mick even off the track. Schumacher, who currently holds the role of reserve driver for Mercedes, has the necessary experience to face the challenges of Formula 1, and his possible arrival could guarantee stability and continuity for the team.
The Williams dilemma and the new scenarios at Fanta F1
Williams team principal James Vowles recently admitted that the situation with Sargeant has become untenable. The American driver's repeated accidents are costing the team dearly, both in economic terms and in terms of results. Sainz's arrival in 2025 already represents a clear decision on the future direction of the team, but the risk is that continuing with Sargeant could further compromise the current season. In parallel, Fanta F1 fantasy managers may also have to say goodbye to Sargeant sooner than expected. It must be said, however, that for some Grand Prix there has been another driver most coveted by Fantamanagers precisely because of the last place bonus, namely Guanyu Zhou.
