Simply an alien. There are no other words to describe the pole position than Max Verstappen – for a change – brought home during the qualifications of the Belgian GP. The Dutchman placed the best time in front to the Ferrari of Leclerc and teammate Perez.
Simply Max
An exceptional ride, even if it didn't go completely smoothly. Verstappen in fact risked a lot in Q2, when he managed to qualify for Q3 in tenth position. A good scare: in that circumstance Verstappen really risked a lot, as did his last lap: "In Q2 – admitted the Dutchman after qualifying – I was very at the limit, especially considering the conditions. In fact, I must say that I was very lucky to qualify, while in Q3 I was able to risk a little more and I did. I'm very happy: getting back on pole, considering the penalty, was the best result I could have achieved".
Verstappen comments on his pole: “I risked it all the way”
Very particular track conditions, with Verstappen who took pole in a way that only he – at least during this season – is capable of doing: "In the second sector there was a bit of a damp track, so I had to follow an alternative line: I wanted to risk everything. Ultimately, when you do it, it's because you have confidence: it's all about confidence. By doing this we managed to demonstrate that we have an excellent car and we are very happy about this."
"Penalty? I've had worse"
Despite the pole, Verstappen will have five penalty positions to be served on the grid on Sunday following the replacement of the gearbox. The Dutchman will start sixth, but it's certainly not a factor worries him"Last year we started from the back and achieved our objective, we'll see what I can do this season. Spa is a circuit that I really like: it's a second home race for me. I'm very confident.".
