Il Dutch Grand Prix marks the start of the final chapter of the Formula 1 season, with the final ten races determining the world champion. Max Verstappen, who has dominated at Zandvoort in the last three editions, is ready to defend his title at his home race. However, McLaren's growing competitiveness and the improvement of its drivers make this event particularly challenging for the Dutch champion.
Verstappen and the link with Zandvoort
Max Verstappen, after suffering another heavy defeat in Belgium, hopes to break his streak of victories in his second home race, in the Netherlands at Zandvoort. A land that has never disappointed him so far, giving him 3 victories in 3 races held from 2021 to 2023. Max Verstappen has always had a special connection with the Dutch GP. Although he was born in Belgium, his bond with Holland led him to race with the colors of the Dutch flag, becoming himself a symbol of the country, whose anthem is now known to everyone thanks to Max's numerous victories. Nothing compares to the atmosphere that for some years now has been affecting that small piece of land on the edge of the North Sea, where a single color dominates all the others. And the credit for all this obviously goes to Max Verstappen. The Max phenomenon has grown a lot considering that in 2021 he still had zero world titles, and now after 3 editions, he is going for his fourth.
“Zandvoort is my home race,” said Verstappen. “It's fantastic to see so many fans in the stands, the atmosphere is incredible and it gives me an extra boost. I hope I can fight for victory once again.”
Despite his impressive record, Verstappen acknowledges that things could be different this year. McLaren, which has shown significant progress in the second half of the season, represents a serious threat. “We know the competition will be fierce,” added Verstappen. “But we are ready to give our best.” This weekend's challenges will require the maximum of his skills and the team's preparation to maintain his dominant position.

McLaren tries to apply pressure
Orange is not only the color that identifies the Dutch but also Red Bull's most direct opponent, namely McLaren.
The English team has shown a notable improvement in performance, and Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are ready to exploit every opportunity. “It will be a very competitive weekend,” underlined Verstappen. “Every race now counts and we cannot afford to underestimate anyone.”
The circuit, known for its difficulty in overtaking, will make qualifying a crucial moment. Pole position could make the difference, and Verstappen will be under pressure not only to maintain his winning streak but also to respond effectively to new challenges. “The atmosphere will be fantastic as always,” Verstappen said, “but our priority is performance on the track.”
Red Bull also needs Perez
There is a significant detail that will impact these last 10 races of the season, namely the performance of the second Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez. The Mexican will not go away, at least for the moment. But the results cannot be long in coming considering that there are only 42 points between Red Bull and McLaren. The Mexican's season was not the best and he faced many difficulties, including mixed results and increasing internal and external pressure. “I have to find continuity,” Perez said. “This is an important weekend for me and for the team. I hope to contribute my best and have a good performance.”
As the crucial phase of the season begins and we enter the decisive period with the final ten races, it will be interesting to watch how the battle between Red Bull and McLaren develops. Can Verstappen maintain dominance at his home race or will McLaren make inroads into his kingdom?
