In light of what happened this Friday, it is surprising to see Max Verstappen taking pole position in qualifying for the Miami Sprint Race.
Max in front despite the difficulties
Despite using softer tires for the final shootout, all drivers struggled on the single lap to establish the order of the top 10 in the Sprint Race. Max Verstappen, however, managed to place himself in front of everyone with 1:27.641.
The Dutchman looked shocked as he had difficulty driving from the beginning, as he himself stated in the post qualifications:
"To be honest, it was a terrible feeling“, said Verstappen. “I don't know, maybe the last session was incredibly difficult to make the tires work, because already in SQ2 I wasn't feeling well. The SQ3 I think was pretty similar for me. I haven't improved much on the softs, but somehow we are first. I'm happy with this positive surprise, but I didn't find it pleasant to drive today. ".
Opposite sensations instead in the local morning's free practice, where the Dutchman felt at ease and had confidence.
The doubt remains as to what happened to his rivals, considering that Lando Norris recorded a faster time in SQ2 than that of pole. Despite Verstappen's exploits, in qualifying for the Miami Sprint Race which will be held tomorrow the drivers were all close in terms of gaps.
Will this be a prelude to a hard-fought race?
