We are on the eve of the sixth round of the season, the last before the arrival of the European stages. In Miami, Max Verstappen he is looking for his fifth victory of the season and an increase in the standings. Despite an almost perfect start to the season, the reigning world champion warns that it won't be an easy weekend for him.
Dutch is the only winner in the history of this Grand Prix, having won in both 2022 and 2023. Despite this, the number 1 still has 0 pole positions (in 2022 it was Leclerc's, in 2023 Perez's). If he manages to get the start from the pole this weekend, he would become the first driver to start the season with 6 consecutive pole positions since Alain Prost in 1993.
Verstappen: “Miami physical track, it will be a challenge”
“We are in for a very interesting weekend given that we will still experience the sprint race as happened in China – explains the Dutchman, as reported by OA Sports - We will try to take advantage of the short distance race to dump important data in view of the Sunday race".
"Miami is always one of the most physical tracks, mainly because of the hot and the layout with several complicated curves. We can't wait to take on this weekend's challenge. It's an interesting track with a nice mix of corners and long straights. It will be essential to learn how to balance the machine this weekend".
A transfer to Mercedes? Max curbs his enthusiasm
It's no secret that Toto Wolff is doing everything he can to take away Red Bull and Christian Horner's star driver. Adrian Newey's departure does not seem to have upset Max Verstappen, who knows he can count on other good engineers in the future.
"I would have preferred Adrian Newey to stay, but I didn't try to dissuade him, when a person decides to leave a team you can't stop it. His departure doesn't necessarily have to be negative, maybe young talents will have more opportunities for example. His decision was not entirely unexpected for me".
Regarding the possibility of changing teams by moving to Mercedes, Max Verstappen cut it short. At the moment there is no desire on the part of the Dutchman to change teams. Especially with someone else fighting for fourth or fifth position.
“I've always said that I want to have the fastest car and that's what I have right now. Obviously it is important that the key figures remain within the team, but Adrian has decided to leave, I have not tried to dissuade him because the choice is up to him. At the moment my future is at Red Bull and I'm happy with what I earn, with 250 million, but a fifth place car, I would be in a much more bad mood. Me in Mercedes? Everyone can be optimistic and hopeful, but I want to stay at Red Bull. I believe in the project we are working on, but in sport and in life you never know what will happen in the future."
