A very violent impact which fortunately did not have serious consequences. Lance Stroll in Singapore managed to escape unscathed after losing control of his Aston Martin on the final corner. The impact, in Q1 of qualifications at around 220 km/h it disintegrated the single-seater of the Canadian driver who was taken to the medical center for checks. Despite not having encountered any particular problems, being the Singapore Grand Prix one of the most trying, and having back-to-back with Suzuka next week the team has decided to let Stroll recover 100% and he will therefore miss the Grand Prix. Also in such a way as not to force the team to do excessive and all in all useless work to repair the car that would have started in last position. The Canadian driver will not be replaced by any other driver.
The press release from Aston Martin
In the afternoon in Singapore, a few hours before the Grand Prix which will start here in Italy at 14pm, the team announced its decision on Stroll. There will be only one Aston Martin on the grid representing Aston Martin Fernando Alonso. "Following Lance's crash in qualifying at the Singapore Grand Prix, Lance and Aston Martin have jointly agreed that he will not participate in this evening's Singapore Grand Prix. Today the team faces a huge job to repair the car and understandably Lance is still sore from such a strong impact. Lance's focus now shifts to full recovery ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix."
However, things went well for Lance, and this is the most important point of the story, also touched upon by team principal Mike Krack. "The whole team is relieved that Lance was able to get out of the car after yesterday's accident – however, he still feels the consequences of such a violent impact. Our priority now is that he recovers fully and quickly. Together, we have decided that he will skip tonight's race and instead focus fully on returning to the cockpit for next weekend's Japanese Grand Prix."
