Carlos Sainz returns to the podium in the GP Austria. A satisfactory result which, however, was only achieved thanks to the self-elimination that occurred between Norris and Verstappen. The driver from Madrid and Ferrari had an up-and-down weekend, however managing to improve quite a bit from Friday to Sunday. This allowed him to fight among the top five and, albeit fortuitously, to grab the podium.
Carlos Sainz satisfied with his race in the post Austrian GP: "A podium is always a good result"
Carlos Sainz gave it his all this weekend in Austria. Despite the obvious difficulties of his Ferrari, the Spaniard proved to be fast and able to fight for the positions that matter. After a complicated and chaotic start which saw him battle with Lewis Hamilton, Sainz tried in every way to remain in the exhaust of the other Mercedes, that of George Russell. However, the feat proved impossible, although his Ferrari still demonstrated better competitiveness than what was seen in Spain and Canada. Before the contact between Norris and Verstappen, Sainz was attempting a final assault on Russell, failing to catch him and then also being overtaken by Oscar Piastri.
Un Sainz therefore satisfied, but aware that the road to victory is still long: "for us it was still a question of keeping George's pace but we knew that the Mercedes would have a small advantage in terms of race pace. We tried everything to keep us close. In the end, however, Oscar arrived very quickly. Third place is a good result, because it wasn't an easy weekend for us. We must be happy and proud of what we have done."
Sainz and Ferrari with their gaze already turned towards Silverstone
Finally, the Spanish driver has already placed his attention towards the next GP, where it will take place at Silverstone in England. Although the Cavallino comes from a series of uninspiring results, especially when compared with the expectations assumed after the last victory in Monaco, the desire for revenge is growing and a lot is already being done to improve performance on the track: "unfortunately we come from a couple of races in which we haven't yet had what it takes to win. But we are doing everything we can as a team to get back to form at Silverstone, to ensure we are up front and capitalize. Otherwise, however, a podium is always a good result. Let's keep pushing like this to stay in the fight."
