“It makes me laugh, months ago they said I had signed for Mercedes or Red Bull, now I would have signed for Williams“. With these words Carlos Sainz commented or rather questioned the many rumors about his future during the media day in Canada. The latest rumors spoke of a certain signing with the Grove team, Williams, which Sainz would have announced in the next GP, in Spain. However, Sainz wanted to get out of these items, clarifying that there is nothing true about what was said.
Still uncertainties about Sainz's future
The Spaniard is playing his last season at Ferrari but his next destination is not yet clear. Sainz's name is certainly the most interesting one in the driver market which is continuing to move. In fact, two other important pieces of news arrived this week. The first concerns the departure of Esteban Ocon from Alpine and the second the renewal of Sergio Perez with Red Bull. The top teams still lack confirmation of the second Mercedes seat, which however should go to Andrea Kimi Antonelli. This limits Sainz's choice to medium-low ranking teams, including Audi/Sauber, Alpine and Williams.
Williams rumors unfounded
The Spaniard has made it clear several times that he wants to wait to have as clear a picture as possible and that he has not yet chosen his next team. However, this did not discourage the various media, who continued to hammer on the possible destinations, even inventing, according to the Spaniard, that it was official.
“I have seen articles in the media saying that I would have signed and I don't understand why I didn't sign anything. It makes me laugh, months ago they said I had signed for Mercedes or Red Bull, which later turned out not to be true. Now people say I signed for Williams and I laugh because no one will pay if it isn't true, as I have always said when I have something to announce, you will be the first to know and I will speak openly."

Comment on the renewal of Sergio Perez
Sainz also commented on the renewal of Sergio Perez, which put an end to hopes of seeing him in the team with Max Verstappen, at least until 2026. Despite this, Sainz, however, remains confident about his future.
“I've already known this for a while, for me it's not a surprise because I've already known the news and conversations you see today for months. But that doesn't mean I don't have a good future ahead. I have spoken to many teams who want me badly. This pleases a rider and makes me feel good for everything that comes in the future"
