At the end of qualifying for the Japanese GP Carlos Sainz ranks fourth. The podium is only 2 tenths away, with P3 occupied by Lando Norris.
Sainz speaks after qualifying for the Japanese GP: "Giro seemed clean, I was sliding a bit"
The Spaniard concluded the qualifying in fourth place in the standings and, exclusively to Sky Sport F1, commented on his result considering that he did not advance in his last attempt, even though he felt pretty good with the car: "I'll have to watch the last lap again, because it felt like it clean. I was hoping to do at least the same time as the first run, but we didn't succeed. In reality, in the first sector I felt I was sliding a little more, even if it was like this for all the sessions".
“In Suzuka two tenths is a world, we were slower in pace”
Subsequently, the Spaniard spoke about his position in the ranking, a 2 tenths from Norris: "What we need to look at is the McLaren ahead of us by 2 tenths, and here in Suzuka they are a world. But overall I'm happy with my lap."
The most important question was certainly the one about race pace. However, Sainz brought everyone back down to earth, indicating that he had the Red less petrol of the others: “I think we were more fuel-filled than the Red Bull. In reality, I think we will be stronger in the race than in qualifying. Red Bull had real fuel, the others remains to be seen. Tomorrow the pace will be different from today – concluded Sainz, outlining Ferrari's objectives for tomorrow – we will certainly have to fight against Lando for the podium, which is our goal".
Carlos Sainz is therefore realistic about tomorrow's match. The objective is the podium, as he explained, but the Prancing Horse car it still wouldn't be at Red Bull level.
