The Spaniard is the last rider to have won a Silverstone and he arrived with very clear ideas about the type of work that Ferrari must do to reach the podium. Right here the team has brought a new one beam wing and it was Sainz who gave the first feedback in FP1. Overall, Carlos' day ended without problems and with interesting data especially on the flying lap. To my teammate, Charles Leclerc, unfortunately it got worse. A fire started on his SF-23 forced him to watch FP2 from the pits. Despite the reliability problems that continue to plague Ferrari, Sainz hopes to be able to make the most of this weekend.
Sainz: “It's important to manage the tires”
A key element will certainly be tire management, a problem that Ferrari has had for years. In Canada and Austria the SF-23 did not cause any problems on that front but at Silverstone the situation is more complex. If the SF-23 appears to be competitive on one flying lap in terms of race pace, the same cannot be said. And this is the area on which the team needs to work the most. Not only to be able to reduce the gap with Red Bull but also, and above all, to close the gap on Aston Martin and Mercedes. A more equal clash, which is all about updates.

“Today was a busy Friday – Sainz told the media. The first session was difficult both due to the wind and the track conditions. However, we managed to complete our program and this helped us make good progress in the next round. We must continue to work on tire management as well as race pace and tomorrow we will focus above all on these aspects since we are not doing badly on the flying lap. Overall we are quite satisfied even if we know that there is still work to do."
