Carlos Sainz is preparing to close his chapter in Ferrari with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, a weekend full of emotion and meaning. The Spaniard, who will drive for Williams next year, will face his last race with the Scuderia from Maranello fighting for an ambitious goal: the Constructors' title, with Ferrari called upon to fill a detachment 21 points behind McLaren.
A special farewell for Sainz
During the press conference on Thursday, Sainz expressed his desire to close this experience with a significant result:
“This weekend will be quite emotional and intense, not only because it is the last one with the team but also because the stakes are high with the Constructors' title still up for grabs. At the same time, It's been a tough time overall with a lot of things happening behind the scenes, but I have to be pretty proud of how I handled every situation throughout the year and how I managed to push myself to get to the end of the season still in good shape and ready to fight.".
The Spanish driver leaves Ferrari after four seasons in which he collected four wins, six pole positions and 24 podiums. Despite moments of tension, especially in the relationship with teammate Charles Leclerc, Sainz contributed significantly to the race for the Constructors' title, accumulating 272 points in the personal standings, against the 152 of the second Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez.

A complicated but not impossible mission
Sainz also spoke about the difficulties that await Ferrari in Abu Dhabi:
“Leaving Ferrari with the title would be everything to me. It would be the best way to say goodbye to what has been my home for the last four years. But I also have to be honest… I don't want to say it's a remote possibility, but it's still going to be a difficult undertaking. We are 21 points behind two of the fastest drivers and one of the fastest teams on the grid and to make up that much would require absolute perfection from us. Or a less than optimal or negative weekend for them. But unlikely things can happen in racing, so we will try to the end.”
The fight between Ferrari and McLaren for second place in the Constructors' World Championship looks set to be tough, with Mercedes and Red Bull ready to play an outsider role. For Sainz, however, there is also another goal: to say goodbye to the team that has accompanied him in the last four years with a result that will remain in everyone's memory.
