The Spaniard from Ferrari, despite his poor feeling with the Baku track, managed to put his stamp on third place on the starting grid. After an initial moment of uncertainty in Q1, El Matador entered Q2 determined to push to ensure his passage to the next phase. In the last session, in fact, he made the most of the potential of his SF-24, demonstrating that he was in full harmony with the single-seater. However, second place on the grid was snatched from him by a super Oscar Piastri, the only McLaren driver present in Q3, as he sprinted to the checkered flag. Sainz's third place confirms on the track how much good has been done so far in Maranello. A possible one-two tomorrow would really allow Ferrari to look at the constructors' championship with different eyes.

Sainz's post-qualifying statements at the Baku GP give the fans hope
After third place in qualifying at the Baku GP, Sainz lets his words flow: “We had a solid day with both cars and we are in a very good position for tomorrow. Unlike Charles, this is not my favourite track, driving here doesn’t come naturally to me. I always struggle a lot, so third place is definitely a good result. Yesterday I was the fastest on the long runs, so I am confident that things can be better. The pace looks strong, so there is a lot at stake for the race. The track evolved a lot during the qualifying session, we had more grip towards the end even with the sun going down. In Q3 I managed to find that little something I was missing in Q1 and Q2, and get into the top-3. The Ferrari front row was possible if I had been a little bit quicker, but we can try again in the race”.
