George Russell takes an excellent third place on the grid ahead of tomorrow's race. Mercedes confirms its great form after dominating FP3, perhaps even ready to threaten the current dominance of McLaren. In the post-qualifying session of the Monza GP, the British driver of the "Silver Arrows" does not go too far in his statements, he knows that the team is working well and that the second row is perhaps even more than they could have hoped for.
Mercedes confirms its great form
After dominating FP3 in Monza, the Silver Arrows once again demonstrate that they are working in the right direction, far from last season. After Hamilton's victory in Silverstone and the one-two in Spa before Russell's disqualification was made official, Mercedes conquer the second row of the Monza GP with his number 63. With a masterstroke, the former Williams managed to outwit both the Ferraris of Sainz and Leclerc, thus moving behind the two McLarens that monopolized the front row. Tomorrow, therefore, Russell will have the opportunity to start from the clean side of the track, trying to worry the two cars from Woking that so far seem to have no rivals.

A satisfied Russell in his statements on the Monza GP
“It went great, third place is a little better than I expected because it was a difficult session,” Russell said in his Monza GP comments at the end of qualifying. “Luckily we saved the best for the end, we are not too far from the McLaren who are very fast at the moment. We are working very hard to catch up with them, but I am very happy with today’s result.”
Russell then added: “I think it will be a very close battle, everyone is very close. I am very excited because we have all been waiting for this type of competition. Now if you do a great job you have a chance to win, so I am very excited for tomorrow”. The Briton concluded his thoughts by mentioning good Italian food and joked about the weight problem after what happened in Spa: “Maybe tonight I will eat a nice pizza so I will have a bit more weight to manage tomorrow in the race”.
