The Italian GP ends with a very surprising victory for Ferrari di Charles Leclerc. An exceptional strategy by the Reds, who with just one stop found themselves in the lead with 10 laps to go with a tyre of almost 40 laps. Second and third position for Oscar piastri e Lando Norris, who still recover important points on Red Bull in view of the Constructors' Championship. The two drivers of the Milton Keynes team in fact finish only in P6 (Max Verstappen) and in P8 (Sergio Perez). Let's discover the highlights of the race on the Monza circuit.
Italian GP Start: Norris Does Not Hold Lead, Overtaken by Piastri and Leclerc
The start of the Italian GP sees Norris managing to hold his position after the first variant, while Russell goes on the grass and must slalom to get back on track. The British driver will have to make an early pit stop (lap 12) due to damage to the front wing. However, once they reach Roggia, Piastri attacks Lando and passes it, also facilitating the overtaking of Charles Leclerc. Behind so much brawl between Nico Hulkenberg and two o'clock VCARBOn the first lap Haas is closed by Daniel Ricciardo at Ascari, while then the German goes long at the first variant and takes Yuki tsunoda, forced to training camp. For the Australian they arrive 5 second penalty, while for Nico they will be 10 the seconds to be served.
Norris returns, Ferrari responds immediately. Max leader with white tyre
On lap 15 the waltz of pit stops begins also in front. The first to stop is Lando Norris, which makes the Rossa mechanics react immediately. Leclerc comes back but, however, suffers the undercut of the McLaren #4. On lap 17 he therefore stops Oscar piastri, who still comes back before the other two. They remain outside Sainz e Verstappen. The Dutchman has a white rubber from the start and therefore on another strategy. On lap 20 the other Ferrari #55 also comes in. At this stage the #16 laps at the same times as the McLarens. The race leader is now the Red Bull #1.
Piastri flies after pit stop, Norris' mistake and Leclerc tries
Halfway through the race, all the top teams have made their pit stops. The last one to stop is the reigning world champion. His pit lasts, however 6.2 seconds due to a problem with the left rear. After an initial attack attempt by Leclerc on Norris, the Monegasque has to give up and is unable to keep up with the McLarens on a consistent basis. Fast lap after fast lap by Piastri and Norris, with the Australian having an advantage of 2.5 seconds on his teammate. On lap 31, however, Lando makes a mistake at Roggia and loses all the advantage on Leclerc who recovers the DRS. On the next lap the #4 comes back into the pits for its pit stop which is a bit long (3.3 seconds). Ferrari did not react, however, with Norris having returned behind Max Verstappen, his rival for the championship. On lap 37 he also stops Lewis Hamilton (P4), and the first doubts about getting to the end begin to appear.
Piastri stops, Leclerc wins and then McLaren
Lap 38 is a crucial lap, because the leader stops Oscar piastri. Slightly long pit stop, but what is worth noting is that in first and second position there are the two Ferraris. But a communication comes from the pits: we try to get to the bottom of it. With 10 laps to go, Piastri is 3 seconds behind Sainz, Ea 13 from Leclerc. Madness succeeds in the end, and Charles Leclerc triumphs at Monza. Piastri, Norris and teammate Carlos Sainz follow. Fifth position for Hamilton, Max Verstappen only sixth who sees his advantage over Lando decreaseSeventh and eighth position for Russell and Perez.
