In the heart of the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, qualifying for the Spanish GP held surprises, culminating with a last-gasp pole position snatched by Lando Norris over Max Verstappen. The two Ferraris will start from the third row of the grid.
Le three free practice sessions at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit we were left with several unknowns which received a first answer during the qualifying for the Spanish GP. Lando Norris will start first tomorrow, with a time of 1:11:383, equal to that of Max Verstappen, second. Lewis Hamilton closes the top 3.
Hamilton leads Q1
The start of qualifying for the Spanish GP already showed a very close result in the front rows, with the leaders 15 riders within just 1 second of difference. Hamilton finished Q1 in first place with a time of 1:12.143, followed by Leclerc in second place and Sainz in fifth, both having only used one set of soft tyres. Those eliminated in this phase were Magnussen, Tsunoda, Ricciardo, Albon and Sargeant. For the latter, an impediment was noted on Stroll's Aston Martin, which will be investigated at the end of the session.
Q2, Leclerc at risk
After a mistake by Charles Leclerc in turn 9 which relegated him to fifth position with a few minutes to go, Ferrari decided to stay in the pits, running a great risk of elimination. Once all drivers have completed their final lap, the choice proved to be the right one, with the Monegasque finishing seventh. Sainz set a good time in his first flying lap and passed Q2, while the other Spaniard on the grid, Fernando Alonso was eliminated. Bottas, Hulkenberg, Stroll and Zhou also did not make it to Q3.

Q3, Norris takes pole from Verstappen
Once again it seemed that Max Verstappen was unbeatable in qualifying, but at the last moment it was Lando Norris took pole position with a perfect lap of 1:11:383. This is a crucial moment for both the driver and McLaren, who must demonstrate that they are capable of winning with an MCL38 that once again looks to be the fastest on track this weekend.
