Lando Norris took his sixth career pole, with Max Verstappen second. The two struggling Ferraris will start from the back of the top 10 after Sainz's crash and Leclerc's times were cancelled.
From the free trials, Lando Norris had presented himself as the clear favourite for pole in qualifying for the Singapore GP. After a session full of twists and turns, especially in Q3, Norris took pole, the sixth of his career, with a time of 1:29.525. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton completed the top three, ready to challenge each other tomorrow.
Q1: Norris sets the pace
The plausible evolution of the track during Q1 of the Singapore GP qualifying session put the two Ferraris, but especially George Russell, under a little pressure towards the end. As it did in FP3, Lando Norris continues to hold first place with a time of 1m30.002s. Colapinto advances to ninth place, but more importantly, less than a tenth behind Albon. However, Ricciardo, Stroll, Gasly, Bottas and Zhou did not make the cut to Q1.
Q2: Verstappen is there
The Dutch champion was not the favourite for this weekend, but he made his mark by placing second, +0.040 from another unexpected protagonist of the weekend, Oscar Piastri who completely reopened the qualifying with a time of 1m26.640s. Both Williams were disqualified, with Colapinto just 7s off Albon, along with Pérez, Magnussen and Ocon.
Q3: Disaster for Ferrari
Carlos Sainz was preparing for his flying lap and, after letting Oscar Piastri, who was already on his lap, pass, his tyres were no longer up to temperature. He then started to adjust something on the steering wheel, which probably caused Sainz to lose control of the car. The accident immediately caused a yellow flag, which led to the cancellation of Verstappen's fastest lap, and shortly after the session was red-flagged. Max complained on the radio that he had slowed down and crossed the finish line with the green flag still out.
When the session restarted, anything was possible with just one lap to spare, but Lando Norris managed to take pole. The English driver will have his title rival, Max Verstappen, in his mirrors, starting from second position. Lewis Hamilton closes the top 3, while the two Ferraris will have to rebuild their race starting from the bottom of the top 10, after Sainz's accident and the cancellation of Charles Leclerc's time due to track limits.
