Russell took pole position in qualifying for the Silverstone GP, followed by Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris, creating an all-British top three for tomorrow's race.
After the last free practice sessions which showed a very strong Mercedes in the wet and a favored McLaren flying in the dry, the qualifying for the Silverstone GP gave some confirmations. George Russell will start first tomorrow, with a time of 1:25.819, followed by his teammate, Lewis Hamilton. Lando Norris closes the all-British top 3.
Q1, Perez KO on gravel
The recent rumors about his possible replacement with Daniel Ricciardo they certainly didn't help Checo Pérez improve his performance on the track. The Mexican went out with red rubber when the track was still wet in the fast corner sections and he did lost control of his car, ending up in the gravel and causing a red flag that interrupted the session. This caused the arrival of rain which put the two Ferraris and even Verstappen in difficulty in completing the lap on the red tyre. Together with Pérez, Bottas, Magnussen, Ocon and Gasly did not make it to Q2 (who in any case will have to start from the pit lane to change his PU).
Q2, Ferrari in trouble with Leclerc out
Already in normal track conditions, we saw how the two Ferraris again struggled until the end to find the right lap due to the late evolution of the track. The SF-24 did not deliver the performance expected with the package brought to Barcelona and neither driver was comfortable driving at Silverstone, especially Leclerc. Both drivers therefore drove with the old configuration. Carlos Sainz managed to finish 7th in Q3, while Charles Leclerc was the first of the eliminated and will start eleventh Tomorrow. The other eliminated from Q2 in qualifying for the Silverstone GP are Sargeant, Tsunoda, Zhou and Ricciardo.
Q3, Front row all Mercedes
George Russell ends the session in pole position with a time of 1:25.819 followed by his teammate, Lewis Hamilton to confirm the rise of Mercedes. In third place is Lando Norris to create an all-British start at Silverstone tomorrow. Sainz placed seventh, while Max Verstappen will be 4th behind Norris.
