Qualifying for the Canadian GP held surprises and twists. With Russell on pole and both Ferraris excluded from Q2, the race promises to be unpredictable.
After three free practice sessions with weather conditions that clouded the teams' potential, the qualifying results for the Canadian GP arrive. George Russell will start first tomorrow, with a time of 1:12:000, equal to Max Verstappen in second. Lando Norris closes the top 3.
Q1, Pérez KO
The session was opened by the official announcement of the renewal of Yuki Tsunoda with Visa Cash App RB up to 2025. A few minutes later qualifying began with the first risk of light rain, which accelerated the first exits from the garages to try to complete a good lap with red tyres. A few seconds from the end, Alexander Albon eliminated Sergio Pérez, leaving him as the first excluded, following the confirmation of his two-year renewal announced this week with Red Bull. Bottas, Ocon, Hulkenberg and Zhou also remained out of Q2.
Q2, Sainz and Leclerc out
Lewis Hamilton closed Q2 with a time of 1:11.979, while Land two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were incredibly left out of Q3 and will start 11th and 12th respectively. The strategy of doing a lap on used red tires did not pay off for both cars, who will have to review their tactics in the race tomorrow to return to the top positions, essential in the fight for the constructors' title, with Ferrari just 24 points behind the Reds Bull. The others eliminated were Sargeant, Magnussen and Gasly.

Q3, a Mercedes on pole
Two years after his last pole in Hungary 2022, George Russell finished qualifying for the Canadian GP first with the same time as Max Verstappen, who will start second ahead of Lando Norris' McLaren. These results leave the race open to any outcome, with one Ferrari that seems competitive in all conditions and which could recover positions in wet conditions.
