It will be a crucial week for the future of tyrewarmers ahead of 2024. Pirelli, supplier of tires in F1 at least until next season, is working to try to obtain the definitive approval from the teams to be able to take advantage of the new tires without tyrewarmers starting next season. There are still many doubts and the last word has not yet been said.
Pirelli's idea: tires without tire warmers from 2024
Let's go in order: in view of next season, Pirelli's intention is to use tires without the need to use tyrewarmers. For this, the company with a long P – over the course of several race weekends, see Barcelona and now Silverstone – is working to allow all the teams, naturally always divided into groups and on different tracks, to be able to test a prototype of the new tyres. Ferrari did it together with Mercedes in Barcelona a month ago. On the Silverstone track however it was the turn of Red Bull, Williams and Haas.

The teams slow down
Based on the indications that will arrive from each team, we will vote and decide whether or not the new tire prototype presented by Pirelli can be used from 2024. No result seems to be obvious at this point, considering that several teams are not really convinced about carrying out this step. An example could be Red Bull, with its technical director Waché who stated on the matter: “At this moment the technical regulations are clear: no tyrewarmers in 2024". Mercedes is also on the same wavelength, with Allison who has a very negative opinion on the issue: “From our point of view there are still many challenges to overcome before we can give up on tyrewarmers".

Decision soon
This week, based on what Mario Isola reported, there will be a fundamental meeting to decree the future of tyrewarmers. Without forgetting that, at the same time, Pirelli is in negotiation with Formula 1 to be the sole tire supplier in the paddock from 2025 to 2027, plus an option for 2028. In fact, if this were not to be the case - with Bridgestone presumably in its place - the hypothesis of tyrewarmers it would be rejected first and foremost by Pirelli itself. These will be very important weeks for the future of Formula 1: every card, every element could be decisive from every point of view.
