At the British GP, the teams will use C1 as P Zero hard, C2 as P Zero medium and C3 as P Zero soft. A choice, that of Pirelli, due to the high levels of energy that Silverstone exerts on the tyres. The English track is one of the most severe, in particular for the left front which has to withstand high loads in eight different corners. They register on this track some of the highest average cornering speeds (Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel are driven at full speed). Pilots are also subjected to high lateral forces that even exceed 5g.
Pirelli, tests also begin with a view to 2024
During the 2022 edition, the drivers used, for the most part, a two-stop strategy. All the compounds were used during the Grand Prix but also as the initial set on the starting grid. First place in the 2022 British Grand Prix went to Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) who thus achieved his first victory in Formula 1, also obtained from pole position. On 11 and 12 July, Pirelli will remain at Silverstone for development tests on dry tires without tire warmers. Red Bull (one day), Haas and Williams will participate in the test.

Remembering the past
After Monza, Silverstone is one of the historic permanent circuits of the Formula 1 championship. The Northamptonshire circuit has in fact hosted 57 Grands Prix. In 2020, the British GP was held and, the following week, the GP celebrating the 70th anniversary of the first race held in F1 on 13 May 1950, right at Silverstone. The most successful team on the English racetrack is Ferrari with 15 victories. Instead it is Sir Lewis Hamilton to be the most awarded driver at Silverstone with 8 victories. The pilot obtained the title when he became a Knight by order of Queen Elizabeth. The investiture ceremony, in 2021, was held by the current King, Charles III.
Pirelli, Mario Isola speaks
During the presentation of the new race week, there was no shortage of them the words of Mario Isola, head of the area Motorsport by Pirelli: "Il British Grand Prix will score the debut of a new dry tire construction. L'introduction anticipates the use of materials scheduled for 2024. The modification was necessary in consideration of the increase in performance of the single-seaters - in terms of loads and speed - recorded since the first races of the season compared to the simulations that were provided by the teams to Pirelli last winter and in light of their probable evolution until the end of the championship. In these years we worked intensively on the simulation so as to be able not only to provide a product that respects the performance targets defined by all stakeholders but also to be able to anticipate any problems and react promptly".

“The new Pirelli tires will be more resistant”
“The new specification it makes the tire more resistant to fatigue but does not alter other technical parameters or its behavior on the track. All the teams had the opportunity to test it at the last Spanish Grand Prix, when we made two additional sets available for each driver: the comments received were in line with our expectations, especially in terms of transparency of performance. Furthermore, the new specification allows Pirelli to keep the front and rear tire pressures substantially unchanged compared to last year, despite a significant average increase in loads".
“Silverstone is one of the most challenging tracks”
“The debut will happen on one of the traditionally most demanding tracks for the tyres: it is no coincidence that in our internal measurement scale Silverstone is at the top in terms of stress and lateral forces exerted, particularly on the left front tyre. With its fast corners, the track also puts a strain on the drivers, who have to withstand lateral accelerations of more than 5 g. The choice of compounds, the range of which has not undergone any changes following the construction update, has remained unchanged compared to recent editions - C1 as Hard, C2 as Medium and C3 as Soft - at least in terms of nomenclature. In fact, today's C1 is a new compound, which is placed in an intermediate position between C2 and C0, the updated name of the hardest compound in the 2022 range".
