Oscar Piastri's second place in qualifying for the Baku GP is the sigh of relief that McLaren needed in this weekend that started badly. After the unfortunate episode in Q1 teammate Norris, it was up to the Australian to defend the Woking team on the track, taking the position from Carlos Sainz by a whisker. So, while the climb to the drivers' championship could suffer a setback, with Verstappen who can perhaps finally breathe a sigh of relief, the race for the constructors' championship continues also thanks to the timely, and venomous, contribution of the 2001 class from Melbourne.
Positive statements from Piastri after the Baku GP qualifying
“I got a little bit close to the wall and on the last lap I even got a little too close. I tried to make the most of the car, this is a track that rewards risk and extra effort. I had much less to lose in the last attempt in Q3, so I tried to make the most of the car. I always felt good, but I wasn't able to make the most of the first part of qualifying. However, I'm very happy with my Q3”, these are Piastri's statements after the qualifying of the Baku GP.

McLaren's race pace will allow him to have the speed needed to fight for the podium and worry the two Ferrari drivers right from the start: "I think we have a good chance of doing well, but following those in front here will be very difficult and we saw that yesterday too. I hope to have some clean air in front and a clear track. We think we can do our race, our race pace is good", concluded the Australian.
