The news was released by a communique on Alpine's official website: Paul Aron the reserve driver for the 2025 season for the French team. An opportunity that also materialized thanks to the promising results obtained by Aron in the current F2 championship. The Estonian has been able to confirm himself as one of the best rookies in the category, with seven podiums and a pole position signed just yesterday in Qatar.
Alpine focuses on young talents: Aron an interesting profile to invest in
The restructuring continues at Alpine. The official announcement of the day concerns the reserve driver for the 2025 season. The choice fell on the very young Estonian driver Paul Aron, currently competing in Formula 2 on board the car made available to him by the English team Hitech Pulse-Eight. Aron will take the place currently occupied by jack doohan, who in turn has been promoted as a regular driver for the next championship. This confirms the typical direction of sports management implemented by Briatore. During his career as a team manager, the latter has almost always opted for young and promising drivers. Two illustrious names? Alonso and Schumacher, respectively at the time of Renault and Benetton. This year the political line has been confirmed with the choices of Doohan and, now, with that of Aron.
While the Australian, son of the illustrious motorcycle champion Mick, has put aside a lot of experience in Formula 2, Paul Aron has been competing in the cadet category for less than a year. Yet, up to now, his results are very respectable. Seven podiums achieved during the season, with a pole position scored just yesterday. Aron, moreover, was a member of the Mercedes Junior team and, in the best championships, has always stood out, conquering the third position in the General rankings of the Formula 4, Regional and Formula 3 championships.
Briatore on the current driver situation: “There is a generational change in Formula 1 at the moment”
Formula 2, perhaps, is returning to being that category capable of launching young drivers into the top series. In short, the function for which it was conceived and created. Yet it is not always a given as a transition: Drugovich and Pourchaire, the respective winners of the 2022 and 2023 editions, have not found a free place among the twenty teams and, above all, their name has never been present in the market reasoning. Questions of opportunity probably, with the two drivers who have experienced that generational drama, which belongs not only to athletes but to young people in general, for which you have to be in the right place at the right time. Here, currently, F1 needs new blood, with some profiles who have already begun to show themselves in the top series.
A generational change that is evolving by opening the doors of the top series to new drivers, as Briatore explained in the press release on Aron. “There is a generational change in Formula 1 at the moment, as we see with many young riders coming into the sport and making a good impact. We believe Paul is one of the best talents and we look forward to developing him into an F1 driver.”. Flavio Briatore then talks about growth, aware that the opportunities given to these young drivers can be important both for the team and for them, as long as they are given the right amount of time to grow up.
Aron happy with this great opportunity: “Alpine great opportunity for a young pilot”
The Alpine press release then reported the words of Paul Aron, naturally happy and satisfied with the opportunity given to him by the French team. “It is incredibly special to be joining the BWT Alpine Formula One Team. It is clear that this It's a great place for a young rider to bond with and I'm really happy that Flavio Briatore and Oliver Oakes gave me this opportunity".
Before 2025, however, Aron will have to focus on the current F2 championship, which sees him fourth with 133 points. A position that certainly allows him to still fight for the podium, with Maloney, close to Formula E, only 2 points behind. “Ahead of 2025 and the hard work that will come with being the team's reserve driver, I have a championship to focus on for the rest of this year and I will give it my all to compete for the title. I can't wait to really get started and continue my journey in motorsports”.
