The pole desired, sought and found on the last lap. Lando Norris thus snatches the first position in the qualifications of Spanish GP before Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes. A result which, given the progress of the weekend, was not entirely unexpected, even if Verstappen still seemed to be the big favourite. “It was a practically perfect ride – explained Norris after qualifying. You understand it when your enthusiasm grows. Everything was perfect. We were close and I'm really happy. Even though I haven't done many, I think it's the best pole position ever. I did it because it was needed. I wanted to thank my fans who were incredible."

McLaren which continues to amaze or, rather, to confirm itself. According to Norris in fact in Barcelona it is not the first time that the strength of the MCL38: “It's not just this weekend we're fast from Miami – admitted the Briton. We probably missed some poles, but today we made the lap. I think Max is stronger and with Red Bull they seemed to be stronger over the weekend. I knew how to improve and I did it." And now, after the pole won (also, as Sky Sport F1 informs, by one wake given by Alpine involuntarily), the objective is to try to win the race tomorrow: “Obviously that is our objective but it won't be easy with Max and Lewis, but now we are here to win. We will try".
