With an extraordinary performance in the Dutch GP, the British driver achieved a victory that rekindles doubts about his possible fight for the drivers' title.
Despite still an unlucky start, Lando Norris wanted to demonstrate all his talent in this Dutch GP, at Max Verstappen's home. The British driver dominated a perfectly managed race, finishing with an impressive gap of 22 seconds from Verstappen's Red Bull and 27 seconds from his teammate.
Throughout the weekend, Norris was very focused, even criticizing the insistent questions from the press regarding his lack of victories. Reflecting on his performance to Sky's microphonesSaid:
“It wasn't a perfect race because of the first lap, once again. But then everything was fine, the car was incredible. I felt comfortable and I could push. When I overtook Max and saw that he couldn't catch up, I thought I could win."
The start remains a critical point to resolve for Norris, even if this time it did not prevent him from triumphing in the Dutch GP, with a margin that highlights McLaren's superiority. The Briton, however, remains quite direct regarding questions about a possible mental block at the time of departure. As he stated, he doesn't feel a desperate need to win to finish the season well:
"Help? I don't need anything, I'm not desperate. People love to make up stories to make news, but I just had to work and be patient. What I want to do is ride as best as I can and enjoy the race, and that's exactly what I did. Today I feel a little on top of the world.”
As for McLaren's superiority and a possible clear overtaking of Red Bull's performance in the world championship, Norris prefers to maintain a cautious attitude:
“You have to be patient. It's true that we were very fast today, but it's also true that the Ferraris were very close, which we didn't expect. Everything is unpredictable now, so I don't want to get too excited. This weekend is over, now let's think about the next one.”
