For the first time since taking on the role of Ferrari Team Principal, Frederic Vasseur has crossed the gates of the Monza Autodromo. One of the most difficult weekends of his career awaits him, the home weekend, which however can be an important piece for the team's restart. But taking away the emotion of the first home race, all of Vasseur's attention will be on the track. So let's see what words he chose to introduce us to the weekend of Italian Grand Prix.
Vasseur: "we want to repay the fans"
It will be important to start well in Monza, finding the right set-up on the first day of testing, Friday. Arriving prepared is an imperative. Especially because one of the most problematic characteristics of the SF-23 concerns its unpredictability. In Holland, Ferrari did not arrive prepared, despite saving themselves in a corner with Sainz's fifth place. At home, in Monza, the music must be different. Words no longer count, but facts matter. That SF-23 which "should have had no comparison in terms of speed" has proven to have various limitations but in the temple of speed it should be able to exploit its technical characteristics along the lines of Spa.
The enthusiasm, however, must be kept aside at least until the single-seater is put on the track, demonstrating that it can actually have its say. “We were eagerly waiting to race here in Monza, our only home race after the cancellation of Imola, and we're finally here. For the whole team, taking to the track in front of the fans is an incentive to put our soul into everything we do – said Vasseur – there is the desire to repay those who always support us - both when things go well and, above all, when they go bad - and we want to offer a good show and a performance with character. For me, this is the first Italian Grand Prix in this role with the Scuderia, so the emotion is even greater.".
Head to the race
To erase what happened in this first part of the season, the disappointments experienced, Monza must necessarily celebrate a celebration for the Italian team and its captain:“To achieve the goal we have set ourselves we must put aside the emotional side and focus on preparing the best possible execution of the weekend - warned Vasseur – from the first lap of the initial free practice session to the last lap of the race. We saw in Belgium that, on certain types of tracks, the SF-23 can be competitive. We must be perfect: Charles and Carlos are two of the strongest riders in the world and it is our duty to put them in a position to make their talent count. Behind Red Bull the values are extremely close and every detail can make the difference. Let's give it our all".
