After more than two years, Nikita mazepin we have seen lift all sanctions and restrictions placed on him from Court of the European Union. The Russian driver, former Haas, had been included by the EU in a list of people on whom sanctions were imposed after theRussian invasion of Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.
Nikita and his father Dmitry had seen each other freeze your funds. Besides, it had been banned from entering European Union member states. Furthermore, a few days earlier the pilot had been fired from Haas together with his sponsor uralkali, again due to the war that had just begun.
Mazepin's journey: from Formula 1 to sanctions
After only one year of Formula 1, therefore, Mazepin started again from Asian LeMans Series. Meanwhile, the Muscovite began to launch calls to remove himself and other colleagues from sanctions lists. None of these, however, ever had the desired outcome.
Last Wednesday, however, the EU has lifted all sanctions against him, arguing that there is no evidence of ties to his father other than blood. Furthermore, the sponsorship of his father's company Uralkali no longer mattered, as the driver had already lost his Haas seat.
The Court of the European Union therefore declared a error place Mazepin on the list of people sanctioned only based on association with his father. The "association criterion” for which Nikita was included in the list, in fact, implies the existence of bonds that go beyond family ones, condition that for Mazepin does not exist.
Mazepin welcomed the news, although his goal of returning to Formula 1 remains almost impossible. “I am extremely encouraged by today's ruling and am grateful to the European Court for the fair trial of my case – reads the pilot's statement – It certainly is a fundamental stage".
