Le qualifying for the Japanese GP they were undoubtedly disappointing for Charles Leclerc. Everything gets complicated already from Q1, in which the Monegasque needs two sets of red rubber to pass the cut. In Q3, #16 has only one attempt, but the very slippery track only gets him in eighth position.
Leclerc disappointed with qualifying in Japan: "I gave everything, little grip on the tyres"
Speaking exclusively to Sky Sport F1, the Monegasque from Ferrari he explained that he tried to put everything together, but couldn't find the right ride: "I think even if I had had the second run I wouldn't have improved much. I put it all together, and usually the round comes out. But this time it didn't happen. The first explanation I can give is the lack of grip on the tyres."
“Problematic round out, other teams are better. We need to understand why."
The real criticism of these qualifications from Leclerc is the round out, or that of preparation. According to him, there are many teams who manage to prepare the tire better, and this could explain the lack of grip: "In my opinion our problem this year is the lap out. We're trying to understand how to improve it, also looking at what other teams are doing. However, each team has its own method, and so does each rider. Simply in Q3 I chose what seemed best to me".
Leclerc proves patient for tomorrow: "The race pace is there"
As happened with Sainz, the real unknown for journalists was the race pace. According to Charles, starting from P8 will cause difficulties in the comeback, but with a good pace anything is possible: "On the race pace tomorrow there is trust. The problem will be overtaking, which is why I should have done better today. But if we maintain a good pace we will have a good chance of staying in front, and therefore also of reassemble".
