After yesterday's qualification and it left a bad taste in Leclerc's mouth, the Monegasque tried to move on. On the fresh from the renewal of the Hungarian route, Charles Leclerc tried to capitalize on what the car afforded him. A not an excellent performance but enough to guarantee him seventh position. So much to do again in Maranello, because the gap from the podium on a favorable track is enormous.
Leclerc's Sunday
The number 16 of Classic Ferrari for sale he had a good start, overtaking Zhou after the Chinese's disastrous clutch break. Leclerc, started with medium tyre, he resisted his teammate's dangers for the first few laps, who had a compound advantage. No pilot swaps in the initial phase. Leclerc is unlucky once again, that is returned to the track in tenth place after a pit stop of almost 10 seconds. The left rear wouldn't fit.
After recovering positions to catch up with his teammate, Leclerc returned on lap 44 to fit white tyres. The undercut on his teammate worked, returning after the Monegasque on the following lap. During the entry into the pit lane, however, the number 16 exceeded the speed limit and was given a 5 second penalty. Unhappy epilogue for Leclerc, who he had to virtually cede the position to Russell, who finished less than five seconds behind him.
A lot to sort out, but Leclerc's morale doesn't drop
On the microphones, Leclerc initially discussed the overall performance: “We know that we felt good on tracks of this type, but the others felt even better. We have to work a lot on the sensitivity of this car with the wind because it is very difficult to manage. I know I repeat myself but we have to work as hard as we can, that's what we've been doing from the beginning and I'm sure it will pay off".
Leclerc then responded to the demoralization that transpires from the radio communications: “No, zero demoralized. I will give everything until the last race. Unfortunately we have a lot of radio problems because we hear one word in four. The motivation is 200% even if unfortunately we don't have the car to prove it. I hope our time will come".
