It was a difficult weekend from start to finish for Charles Leclerc, who was unable to go beyond third place in Mexico. In a race dominated by the Scuderia from Maranello from the first laps, after the restart following the accident between Tsunoda and Albon, Leclerc managed to get the better of the two arguing, Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, who battled and ceded both positions to him. The Monegasque, second until five laps from the end, risked throwing everything away by going off the track at the last corner before the long straight. However, he did well in saving the car in an attempt to keep the British McLaren driver behind him.
After Austin's amazing double, he narrowly misses out Ferrari's second consecutive one-two in Mexico. Regardless of the podium positions, it was still a one-two, but perhaps it leaves Leclerc with a sense of incompleteness. “It was a difficult race, boring at times, especially in the first stint where we had to manage the tyres, brakes, fuel. It was frustrating because I would have liked to do more, but McLaren was really fast in the last stint. We were lucky that Max did what he did at the beginning of the race,” said Leclerc in the post-race of the Mexican GP. “We were a little bit behind all weekend and this was the best possible result for me today. Carlos did a great race today. Overall it was a more than positive weekend for the whole team.”
After the Mexican GP the Constructors' title is not far away
With the double podium achieved in the Mexican GP race, the second consecutive and the fifth this season, Ferrari can still believe in the Constructors' World Championship title. The additional point for the fastest lap scored by the Monegasque driver is proof that in Maranello they are working incessantly towards that direction. Every point counts to threaten McLaren, which after the Mexican GP overtook Red Bull and climbs to the top of the standings with 566 points, followed immediately by the “Rossa” with 537 points. “We have been working very well in recent weeks,” Leclerc continued. “For a few races now, we have returned to the level we should be at and it is a fantastic feeling. The Constructors’ Championship continues to be our objective and after today we are getting even closer. We hope to continue in this direction and win this very important title.”
