A second position that smacks of pole for Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque, during the qualifying sessions held on the Spa track, finished second only Red Bull by Max Verstappen. The gap – of a good eight tenths – it is undoubtedly alarming, but during this Formula 1 season it is already known that there is no match of any kind against the Dutchman.
Special second place
After the disappointing weekend of Hungary, Leclerc sends a very strong message for this weekend. During the afternoon of qualifying we saw his great improvement in these conditions. In Austria, with a weather situation very similar to that of this afternoon in Belgium, Leclerc was very disappointing in the Sprint - only to resurface the following day in the race - admitting his unpreparedness in knowing how to manage the car in these conditions.

Leclerc analyzes qualifying: "I worked a lot to do well in these conditions"
Charles worked hard on it and the outcome, as the qualification shows, is arrived indeed: “It certainly wasn't a bad qualifying, especially if we consider that we raced in these conditions. It was really very complicated to put everything together. I've never felt comfortable with these conditions but I've worked hard to try to limit the problem and let's say that some progress has been made. Unfortunately, pole wasn't in our cards because Max is too fast: we couldn't do more."
"First position? Will we see how it goes?
Considering the pole, but above all the penalty, of Verstappen, Leclerc will start in front of everyone in the race on Sunday. The Monegasque, despite this, prefers not to think about it too much at the moment: “We are certainly starting from an excellent position: we will see how it goes".
