Interviewed after Silverstone GP 2023 from Sky Sports F1, Lando Norris has his say about the incredible second place...
Lando Norris, incredulous but grateful
"Yup, really crazy." This is how the young British driver Lando Norris defines this podium. "First of all, I owe it to the team who did a stratospheric job. None of this would have been possible without this work. So it's really crazy, crazy how we did it." Un Lando Norris extremely grateful towards his team. McLaren, in fact, opted for one counter-current choice, followed only by Ferrari: mount the hard tires for the last part of the race. Choice that has amazed Lando Norris. “They put hard tires on me: me I'm still a little perplexed by this choice, but in any case we made a great comeback with Lewis. I didn't make any mistakes. I tried to give Max a hard time as much as possible. And then it was a long and lonely race in between, but it was fantastic."

The first podium… at his home
Therefore, Lando Norris hypothesizes the reason for this choice: “Yup, they wanted to give me tires perhaps with greater durability. I would have liked the soft ones, I think it was the most sensible choice. But it was there unfortunately the release of Safety car. But it doesn't matter: I was second and I stayed second and so that's fine.” Second, but al first podium in the home Grand Prix. "Yes, really fantastic was also the return lap to greet and thank all the English fans enormously who have given great support to me and all the McLarens. If we had finished second and third I think it would have been better. Oscar deserved to finish third and, without the safety car, he would have done it.” The choice of hard tires was therefore singular. The forced pit stop for Piastri is a bit limiting, but for Lando, Sky driver of this day both in Italy and worldwide, the effort was truly rewarded.
