I rumors of recent weeks have been confirmed. Without major twists, Haas has formalized the renewal of both Nico Hulkenberg. what about Kevin Magnussen. Both have signed a contract extension with the American team until next year. A result that is worth a lot for Hulkenberg who, after an initial part of the season - considering the strength of the car - which can undoubtedly be considered positive, immediately earned the trust of Gene Haas and team principal Guenther Steiner. The same goes for Magnussen who extends his contract with Haas, despite a less than perfect start to the season.
The renewal is coming
Announcing the renewal is the same team through a press release on their channels Social:
"The MoneyGram Haas F1 Team will enter the 1 FIA Formula 2024 World Championship with continuity at the heart of its driver line-up: the American team will retain the current duo of Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen on next season's record-breaking 24-race calendar . With a total of 346 Formula 1 career starts between them, the partnership between Hulkenberg and Magnussen will continue for the second consecutive season - the veteran duo have enjoyed a great and successful working relationship since joining the team based in Kannapolis this year.”
"Although the 1 FIA Formula 2023 World Championship saw the team face challenges with its VF-23, both drivers managed to get their cars into the points, with Hulkenberg achieving his best finish of the season until today, a seventh place at the Australian Grand Prix in April. The MoneyGram Haas F1 Team is currently eighth overall in the Constructors' Championship with 11 points."
Hulkenberg remains at Haas
There was no lack of it Hulkenberg's words, obviously very happy with the contract extension obtained, especially considering the timing: “It's good to sort things out early for next season to just focus on racing and improving performance. I love being part of the team and share Gene and Guenther's passion for it. We are competing in a very small field and I look forward to building on what we have done together so far and taking it forward into 2024".
Magnussen: “It goes without saying how happy I am”
Kevin too Magnussen commented on the announcement of his stay in F1, at least until next year: “I am obviously very happy to see my relationship with the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team expanded once again. My return in 2022 was unexpected but full of highlights and, although this season didn't go quite as we hoped, we still managed to get the points and show the potential of the package we have".
Steiner on the renewal of Hulkenberg and Magnussen
Guenther was also present at the contract renewal of his two drivers, in view of this weekend's Dutch GP Steiner who thus commented on the agreement reached"I think it's safe to say that we had an extremely solid driver duo this season in Formula 1 and ultimately there was no point in trying to change that in the future. With 113 starts for our team alone, we know where his strengths lie and his knowledge and experience of our organization pairs very well with that as well.”
"On the other side of the garage, Nico simply slotted in without fuss or fuss and proved himself to be a valuable member of the team. He is approaching 200 appearances in Formula 1 and we are very happy to be the beneficiary of that experience behind the wheel. Kevin and Nico are clearly enjoying their time in the sport, they both have mature heads on their shoulders and fundamentally understand what we are asking of them. In turn, it is now up to us as a team to look ahead to 2024 and ensure we have a car capable of scoring points consistently".
