After the first two races of the season we would all have expected a Red Bull domain also in Australia. And after Verstappen's sensational pole position, the conditions were better for the Austrian team. However, some problems limited the Sunday performance of the team's two drivers who represented the weak point of Red Bull in 2024, as also described by Horner.
Horner speaks: “Red Bull's weak point is graining”
Both SuperMax and Checo had arrived at the race with some problems: the first with a plumber and second with one at the bottom. Despite this, according to the words of Helmut Marko, for him the Ferrari would have won anyway. In an interview with RacingNews365, However, Christian horner, Red Bull team principal, provided more details. According to the data in their possession, the two cars would blow a lot graining, which the Red manages better: "In Australia we suffered a bit from graining, something that didn't happen to Ferrari. They've improved a lot in that aspect, and it's no coincidence that they've been strong both here and in Las Vegas. Our focus must therefore be on be more competitive on front-limited circuits".
Graining problem? The races with the C5 demonstrate this
Last season, see a single-seater from Milton Keynes team in difficulty it was almost impossible. The only exceptions were Singapore e Las Vegas. What they have in common besides being two citizens: the use of tyres C3-C4-C5. Being the softest in the range, they are more subject to the development of graining. Precisely for this reason Red Bull suffered in these two races, as well as the last round in Australia. Without a doubt, however, the engineers in the factory are already working to find the solution to the problem. The goal is to become competitive again Suzuka, fighting for victory as only they have been able to do over the last season and a half.
