Il Belgian Grand Prix it proved to be a crucial point for Sergio Perez, who had received a clear ultimatum from Red Bull: prove his worth or face possible consequences on his future at the team. Starting from the front row next to Charles Leclerc, the Mexican driver finished the race in eighth position, which became seventh with the disqualification by Russell. A disappointing result which further fueled speculation about his future. Helmut Marko, consultant for Red Bull, made very clear statements at the end of the Belgian GP Sky Germany regarding Perez's performance.
Perez, Marko not happy with the Mexican's result in the Belgian GP
McLaren, continues to improve and threaten Red Bull's position for the constructors' championship making it even more urgent for the Austrian team to make a final decision on the future of their second driver.
During the race, Perez was overtaken by drivers such as Lewis Hamilton, Oscar Piastri, George Russell and his teammate Max Verstappen, finishing in seventh place, the last among the drivers of the four top teams. A small consolation came with the additional point for the fastest lap, obtained in an attempt to at least partially save his weekend.
“Sergio had the opportunity to get a good result starting from second place, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. It collapsed completely, especially in the last stint. What seemed positive in qualifying did not materialize in the race. Of course it's certainly not what we expected.”
Marko's words leave little room for interpretation and seem to confirm that Perez's disappointing performance at Spa-Francorchamps could mark the end of his Red Bull adventure. Despite the recent renewal, its recent performances have not lived up to the expectations of the team, which now seems increasingly determined to consider alternatives for the future.

The verdict is expected tomorrow
This negative result comes at a critical time, Red Bull now has everything it needs to give its verdict which could arrive as early as today, the first day of the summer break, in which a summit is scheduled to decide the future of the Mexican driver. Daniel Ricciardo's shadow becomes more and more threatening. The possibility that the Australian could take Perez's place has become more concrete, especially in light of the Mexican's recent unsatisfactory performances.
As fans anxiously await the outcome of the Red Bull summit, Sergio Perez's fate appears to be hanging by a thread. The next few weeks will be decisive in completing the picture of the 2025 line up.
