From 2025, Lewis Hamilton will race with Ferrari, determined to bring the Italian team back to the top but also to regain a victory that, with Mercedes, is missing in 51 races. The last victory of the seven-time world champion dates back to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2021. A dramatic race, which kept the dream of an eighth world title alive until the controversial final in Abu Dhabi. Since then, Mercedes has taken just one win, at the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix with George Russell. Hamilton had to surrender to a more unstable Mercedes, the result of a problematic project. For the third year in a row the team is not satisfied with its work, paying the price for comparison not only with Red Bull, but also with Ferrari and McLaren. A torment that however will last only a little while longer. In a recent interview, Lewis Hamilton spoke about the next challenge that awaits him from 2025, namely his debut in Ferrari. Revealing the reasons for this step.
Lewis Hamilton to CBS News: “Why did I move to Ferrari? I had enough"
On February 1, Ferrari announced the arrival of Lewis Hamilton from 2025. News that surprised everyone, both due to the timing, i.e. just a few days after the presentation of the SF-24, and because for years there has been talk of a possible union between the two names. Which, however, never happened. But what has changed since then? Why Hamilton agreed to sign with the Ferrari. The answer, or answers, can be found above all in Hamilton's last years at Mercedes. Undoubtedly more difficult than the years of the first hybrid engine single-seaters. Mercedes' dominance has in fact ceased in 2021. The challenge with Red Bull, between Verstappen and Hamilton has definitively changed the course of each event, together with the arrival of the new ground effect single-seaters. Red Bull immediately found the right path. Mercedes made the wrong project. Paying for the effects in the following two years.

The last victory for Hamilton, used to winning, and winning a lot, practically everything, came in 2021. More than two years ago. Lewis Hamilton at CBS News said that this period without success has been difficult, a challenge. “It's been hard over the years, it's been a great challenge and It couldn't have been worse. Of course we exist to win, and when you don't win your perspective has to change. But it's not just about chasing, it's about improving. I really enjoyed this experience. But after three years I said to myself: “Ok, I've had enough, let's go back to our place".
Despite the support of Mercedes since the age of 13, Hamilton decided to accept the challenge with Ferrari, stating that his choice was not due to relationship problems, but rather the desire to "return to the level we deserve". He added: “My future beyond F1? At the moment I'm not thinking about it, because I want to win my eighth World Championship or at least fight for this goal."
Greetings to Mercedes, gratitude to the team
Hamilton also spoke about his love for Mercedes and gratitude towards the team, saying: “For me, this adventure at Mercedes has been extremely exciting, I have so much love for this team. I'm not leaving because I'm unhappy or having relationship problems. Mercedes has supported me since I was 13, so I love the brand and I love the people who work there. They have been with me through thick and thin. So it's definitely a strange transition at the moment."
Ferrari now has the task of getting Hamilton back to the top and fighting for the world championship, a challenge that the British driver is ready to face with his new team.
